Sapling

Sapling is a freeware standalone sound-mangling application for Mac OS X built with Max/MSP 5. It was designed with both live use and studio work in mind. Simply put, Sapling is a program for remixing up to four audio files, but can offer some very interesting and unexpected results by offering several realtime randomization features.

You can download the application and manual here.

Read the manual online here.

Check out a screenshot of Sapling and a couple of sample mp3s made solely with the program. No post-processing was used.

If you enjoy the program and would like to leave a review, feel free to do so at VersionTracker , MacMusic , Softpedia , or MacUpdate .

Regrettably, I lack the time and resources to offer tech support of any kind, so please use the software at your own risk, and leisure. If you are making music with the program however, and would like to share, I'd love to hear from you by emailing at:

Although the program is free, if you enjoy what you find here and it is of some use to you, feel free to make a donation to help support development. Better yet, check out my music page for information on my album. Thanks much.

"Wow. That a program this complete could be used without reading the manual and be offered for free is a testament to the designer. Thanks so much."

"Great - fantastic. Really shows off the potential to throw together lovely little apps in the new Max/MSP 5 - even though I've got Max/MSP, I'll probably end up using Sapling instead some of the time, it just so does what it says on the tin."
